Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Driven Out the Door (Second Part)
The news of the death of Xin He, the chairman of Xin Financial Group, caused a sensation in Jin City and even the whole of Yanshang Country, hitting the top trends on the news for several days.
Five days later, Xin He was buried.
The sky was filled with dark clouds, bringing a light drizzle.
Rows of long black cars were lined up, black-clothed mourners with black umbrellas filled the cemetery.
Ever since the incident of Wan Quan and Xin Zaozao’s fight at the Xin family ancestral hall, in the days that followed, Zaozao still appeared at the ancestral hall, maintaining peace, even until this moment!
All rituals completed, the mourners in attendance gradually left, leaving behind Wan Quan, Mu
Cidian, Wu Qianyuan and of course Xin Zaozao, as well as some household servants and on-site staff.
Mu Cidian cast his gaze at Xin Zaozao, who stood alone.
A loner as always, she neither laughed nor spoke, cried nor made a fuss.
It was as if the woman who had suddenly erupted that day wasn’t really her, once again she was quiet and antisocial.
“What are you looking at?” Wan Quan questioned, her face not looking too good.
In the past few days of handling Xin He’s affairs, she was utterly exhausted.
Regardless, she had to show her face and thus, she had participated from beginning to end.
Mu Cidian pulled his gaze away. He hugged his fiancée and left with her mother.
The servants and the on-site staff followed, departing with them.
Xin Zaozao turned her head, looking at their retreating figures, a cold sneer appearing on her face.
She looked back again, her gaze settling on her father, his black and white photograph.
She asked, “Are you content with this?”
Unsurprisingly, no response came in the quiet place.
“I’m not content.” Xin Zaozao spoke again, “But not for you, for myself.”
She left the cemetery.
It didn’t surprise her at all.
Wan Quan had ordered all the cars to leave, leaving none behind for her.
It was difficult to hail a car in such a remote place.
She walked back home.
The rain was getting heavier, the wind stronger.
Her seemingly sturdy black umbrella was torn apart by the gusts.
She bit her lip, pressing on despite the storm around her.
She knew.
The more one compromised, the colder it became.
Time seemed to drag before she finally managed to return to the Xin family villa.
The few days prior, she hadn’t returned here, spending all her time in the ancestral hall. When she became tired, she simply dozed off by its side. No one checked on her, not even the visitors who passed by. The reality of the world was harsh. With her father dead, everything seemingly fell under the control of Wan Quan and her son. Everyone knew of her hostility towards Wan Quan, and thus, no one was willing to lend her a hand.
She entered the Xin family villa.
Drenched from head to toe.
Her shoes dirtied the floor.
The servants saw this, grumbling behind her, “I just cleaned it, this is just my luck!”
When her father was alive, the servants dared not disrespect her, now that she had nothing, it was even more the case.
She didn’t respond, and instead, she marched upstairs with footsteps that marred the clean floor.
In the upstairs corridor, she happened to run into Wan Quan who had presumably just woken up.
Dressed in a white silk nightgown, with furry slippers on her feet, she was every inch the matriarch.
A stark contrast to Zaozao, who was currently resembling a drowned rat.
Seeing Zaozao, Wan Quan’s face twisted, “What are you doing here? Get out!”
Zaozao glanced at her.
She felt cold.
Even though the April weather in Jin City was warming up, being drenched through left her feeling bone-chillingly cold.
Zaozao proceeded to pass Wan Quan indifferently.
Wan Quan grabbed hold of her, suddenly shoving her away.
Zaozao was weak.
She fell to the ground with a loud thud.
The noise seemed to stir others.
Some servants came upstairs while two figures emerged from an upstairs room. Dressed in clean nightgowns, they looked so noble, so at odds with the current state of Zaozao.
“What happened?” Mu Cidian glanced at Zaozao on the ground then quickly moved to his mother’s side to inquire.
Wan Quan looked down at Zaozao, “Waking up to this , pleased get rid of it right away, it’s an eyesore. ” Having said that, she walked away without giving Zaozao a second glance.
Mu Cidian watched his mother’s retreating figure, then glanced at Zaozao before addressing the gawking servants, “You all can go back to your duties.”
The servants hurriedly left.
Mu Cidian turned back to his fiancee, “You must be exhausted, go back and rest awhile longer.”
His voice was gentle.
Zaozao merely listened quietly.
She got up from the floor without a single glance their way.
“But… what about her?” Wu Qianyuan looked at Zaozao, her eyes filled with sympathy.
“Don’t worry about it, I’ll handle it. Be good.” Mu Cidian spoke softly. Qianyuan hesitated for a moment before she nodded her head and left.
The corridor was left with only Mu Cidian and Zaozao.
Zaozao didn’t wait for Mu Cidian to ‘handle’ her and started to walk towards her room.
Mu Cidian quickly walked towards her, seizing her arm.
Really, she was unnaturally thin.
He said, “I’ll escort you out.”
Zaozao didn’t respond.
Mu Cidian didn’t wait for Zaozao to answer and began dragging her outside.
Zaozao was forcefully brought downstairs by Mu Cidian.
The servants in the hall scattered as they saw this.
Zaozao was taken to the front entrance of the villa by Mu Cidian.
The storm was still fierce outside.
Mu Cidian paused at the entrance.
Zaozao looked at the desolate rain, a cold smirk on her face.
She moved her arm briskly, breaking free from Mu Cidian’s hold.
Mu Cidian watched her.
“No need to throw me out.” Zaozao declared.
With that said, she walked out.
Now, she knew she was no longer welcome here.
Mu Cidian watched as Zaozao’s figure disappeared into the distance, his lips pursing together.
In the pouring rain, Zaozao tried to hail a taxi on the roadside.
Song Zhizhi was right, in this world, no one would help her, she had to rely on herself.
But now, she couldn’t afford to break down. It wasn’t worth it to damage her body over anyone here.
The rain was heavy, and despite her efforts, she couldn’t flag down a car.
Mu Cidian stood there, watching her the entire time.
Until, a black car pulled up in front of the main entrance.
Zaozao took several steps back.

A man in his 50s got out of the car, covering Zaozao’s head with an umbrella.
Zaozao looked at him.
“Zaozao, come with me.” The man spoke.
Zaozao was taken aback.
The man declared, “Your father’s will is with me. It needs to be announced publicly in your presence..”
