Chapter 5: The Erected Statue
EndlessFantasy Translation
Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation
“Player Starfire has successfully completed the Leader-tier Glory Hunt. His heroic achievement and bravery will be remembered for days to come. The Hunter’s Statue will be activated.” The system beeped.
“Player Starfire’s statue will be erected at every novice village around the world. Hunters under Level 10 will receive a special boost effect. Worship the statue daily to receive an hour of double-exp boost.”
With the system announcement on the screen, other players were all thrown into a state of frenzy. In the current situation where most players could not even defeat a single elite monster, someone had soloed a Boss. Furthermore, that player managed to attack the monster’s critical weak point. Players who understood the conditions required to complete a Glory Hunt could not believe it when they heard the announcement.
“I got a buff. For those Level 10 and below, attack and defense increase by 10%, and movement speed increase by 5%,” exclaimed one Hunter.
“That’s so good, it seems that hunters are really strong.”
“Look! A statue has been erected on the water fountain in the center of the square. That must be Starfire.”
“There is an inscription on the Ace’s Statue, it reads ‘Hunters are not weaker than any other classes’ – FieryStar.” One player shared the inscription through the public channel.
“FieryStar is right, Hunters are not weaker than other classes. Instead of deleting my account, I’m going to train harder.”
“That’s right, Hunters are not any weaker than other classes. It doesn’t matter if other teams don’t want us, we Hunters can form a team ourselves.”
“Agreed, besides, we have special buffs and double-exp boost. You can’t get that with other classes. I’m not deleting as well.”
“If a professional can do it, so can I.”
“That is impossible, I was at Level 4 and I tried to handle a Velociraptor King by myself. Its defense was practically unbreakable. I couldn’t inflict more than 100 damage points to the Boss and died. Not to mention, soloing elite monsters is already hard enough,” said EternalWindRanger via the international channel.
“Ah, that’s Master Wind. He was the solo player who rose to the top 3 professional players.”
“EternalWindRanger is right. I tried today but I failed.” MountainPeak replied.
“MountainPeak is not far off from EternalWindRanger’s skills. I heard that he even learned martial arts but still couldn’t do it.”
“If both MountainPeak and EternalWindRanger couldn’t do it, could it be that Starfire has bugged the game?”
“Yes, it must be a bug.”
Countless players began making reports about a bug. Moments later, they received an announcement that the system and numbers were all normal.
Now that the players knew that it was not a bug, the Hunter players were proud as peacocks while other classes were pissed.
“Professional gamers in other classes, have you guys achieved anything? Although there are many districts in every continent, with so many combat teams, guilds, and passer-by professional players, have any of you accomplished anything?”
This statement was posted on the game’s forum and was now the top post. Many average players started ridiculing the top players.
Little did they know, these combat teams and major guilds already knew about most of the elements in the game. They had been longing to receive the same glory the moment they started the game, and they had been working hard on it.
The fact is, who would not want to have their very own statue erected in the square and be famous? Almost everyone did, but they were still in the initial stage where they were exploring and trying to understand elements of the game. They had just started to fight elites and were finding out ways to score critical hits. Who would have thought that such an extraordinary player existed?
However, they still stood a chance since there were still empty spots for other statues from other classes.
Hunters were rarely recruited into teams and guilds, after all, none of them were skilled archers in real life. They were only here for the game.
There were major technological improvements in the society when compared to the earlier days. Now, you could only see bows and arrows were used during the Olympics. The Special Forces had started using high-tech weapons, and such dated weaponry was ditched thousands of years ago.
Li Yao knew what would happen next. He possessed ten years of experience and such glory meant nothing to him. However, he was glad that he had left an impression on other Hunters and inspired them to stay as a Hunter. Now, he was beyond happy as he waited to receive his reward.
Li Yao let out a slight cough. “Mentor, isn’t now the time for me to receive my reward?”
Hunter Trainer Irene nodded and displayed three items before Li Yao. “Since you have been rewarded a Leader-tier glory item, you may choose any one of these three rare-grade items.”
Hunter’s Bow
Grade: Rare (Blue)
Attack: 12-15
Strength: 7
Agility: 5
Attack is paired with -3 poison damage.
Item requirement: Level 3
The bow was an excellent equipment, with high attack damage paired with high attribute bonus. It was definitely a remarkable bow.
Trueshot Aura: Increases user and surrounding teammates’ ranged attack damage by 10% and movement speed by 5%.
Alchemy: Learns Beginner Alchemy.
Trueshot Aura was a great Skill Book to have and was a skill that had to be learned by all Hunters. The skill would greatly benefit Li Yao during battles.
Alchemy was good in eliminating complex tasks that required alchemy. Still, Li Yao did not want to learn ordinary alchemy nor did he need Trueshot Aura since it could be easily bought. As for the Blue-grade bow, it was a rare item.
“Thank you, mentor.” Li Yao crumpled both of the Skill Books. He chose the Hunter’s Bow.
Li Yao did not leave, instead he continued talking with Trainer Irene. “I would like to be an engineer, do you mind introducing some mentors to me?”
“Young man, it seems that you know a lot.” Irene gave a faint smile as she handed over a letter to Li Yao. “Bring this letter over to him, then you will be able to learn engineering.”
Li Yao thanked Irene again and left.
In regards to the engineering tutor, during the eighth year of the game, millions of players from the Light Faction went on a slaughtering spree around the cities. As they passed by the Sun Tower, they thought of slaughtering the High Elves in the novice village before proceeding toward Silvermoon City.
Their journey came to an end when they came across the engineering tutor who was a world-class Boss. He was mightier than the Regent King from Silvermoon City. He had slain the entire Light Faction army with ease.
Then, players came to know that he was the Windrunner Sisters’ youngest brother, the last male heir to the Windrunner Clan.
Many years ago, the Windrunner Clan used to be a high elven family, second only to the Sunstrider Royal Family. The clan had unparalleled influence amongst the high elves.
The eldest among the Windrunner Sisters was the wife of the Grand Marshal of the Light Faction. The second elder sister, Sylvanas, died in a battle while defending Silvermoon City. Now, she had become the Queen of the Undead. In Li Yao’s past life, she was voted as the most beloved NPC beauty by fans who only had a few functioning braincells left.
The third sister was the wife of the Archmage Master Dalaran, who was also a remarkable warrior.
As for the youngest brother, everyone thought that he had died. In reality, he went incognito and hid in the small novice village after the catastrophe. If Li Yao wanted to walk the path of a Mech Hunter, he had a long way to go as he had to strike a deal with him.
The square had become a boisterous trading market. Players had set their booths everywhere.
Li Yao found a corner and paid ten copper coins to the guard to obtain the right to use a stall.
Li Yao contemplated for a moment and began to display the items he wanted to sell at the booth. After he had set the price for each item, he rested his eyes to regain some strength.
Soon, players saw the items displayed at his booth.
“Two equipment, a Green shield and a Blue dagger. That’s crazy!”
“Green and Blue equipment, and I have never seen so many Elite Velociraptor Crowns and Battle Souls. Which guild is this dude from?”
“You must be dumb. Members from top guilds would buy rather than sell these kinds of items.”
“You must be a hacker. How were you able to get so many Elite Velociraptor Crowns? It took me and my team half a day to get only one successful critical hit.”
“You’re an island monkey who knows nothing, douchebag…”
As other players continued with their discussion, more players approached Li Yao’s booth, though none of the items were sold. It was either because the players did not have enough money but wanted to buy or they were players who tried to bargain for the items’ price. Li Yao paid no attention to both.
Li Yao was not worried at all. While he was setting up his booth, he had made an announcement through the trading channel. He was sure that someone rich would be here soon.
As he had expected, a wealthy player came over after he had seen the announcement.
“I need this shield, but I do not have enough silver coins. Do you mind accepting credit points?” asked MrWealthyCollector.
Li Yao could immediately recognize the player in front of him, he was the one known as the one who never lacked money. He was said to be the youngest son of an African chief, and he was also a famous, wealthy player. His skills were average, but he had a full body set of +13 rare equipment, making him an unbeatable, wealthy fighter.
“Not at all, you name a price,” said Li Yao. In actuality, equipment from early stages were not able to sell at a high price. Other players that had their own experiences with other games and still had their senses intact would know that. No one in their right mind would spend tens of thousands to buy a Level 2 or 3 equipment. Now, in this bright era where most people had an average IQ, such idiots did not exist anymore.
“500 CP1,” MrWealthyCollector replied. Although he was rich, he would not simply waste money.
“500 CP is too much for an ordinary Green-equipment, but this is a shield,” said a westerner who had emerged from the crowd. “Defensive equipment are usually that expensive, moreover many people are now fighting monsters to clear up wastelands. How about you sell it to me for 600 CP. I’m the vice president of the Caesar Guild, let’s be friends.”
“700.” MrWealthyCollector was displeased.
“It seems that your excellency will not give face to the Caesar Guild, 800.”
“Fair trade, why should I give face to you? 1,000.”

“This is a good shield, such a shame, but it is not worth such a price.”
Li Yao smiled as he shared his card number. Moments later, he received a notification that the CP had been successfully transferred. “Thank you for your patronage.”
“You’re welcome, let’s be friends. If you have any good defensive equipment, contact me and I will give you a satisfactory price.” MrWealthyCollector had sent a friend request.
Just like that, Li Yao had MrWealthyCollector’s contact in his FieryStar’s friend list.
The crowd was in a frenzy. A Green shield was sold for 1,000 CP. An average person had to work for the entire month to earn around 3,000-4,000 CP, and a Green equipment was just sold for 1,000 CP…
