Chapter 44: A Different Formation
It took the Boss twenty seconds to reach the second platform from the first, the three players attacked it like crazy. In the end, they had only inflicted two hundred damage points on the Boss, it was nothing much when compared to the Boss’s 75,000 Health.
“Tong, go to the second platform now.” said Li Yao when he saw that the Boss was about to enter the first platform.
Although AdorkableTong was young, her ability to understand the operation and her awareness was top-notch. She had already learned the Climb skill book, and the gnome’s body was small but agile.
He saw Tong climbing to the second platform through the hanging rope speedily.
When the Boss entered the platform, Li Yao and Fengyi lost sight of the Boss and could not attack it.
Although Li Yao did not say anything, the two of them were incredibly tacit. Without saying a word, they began to quickly climb to the second platform.
Climbing the rope was tough, but the straight line was the shortest distance.
On the other hand, the Boss was going round and round. The spiral corridor was shaped like an arc, as if it was a spiral staircase, and the distance was not short either.
When the Boss reached the platform, it saw that there was no one on the platform. It started to follow the inner stairs up to the dome only to find out that there was no trace of people at all. Then, it found out that Li Yao and his squad was already on the second platform.
It was because of this, the three were given extra time to attack.
“This Boss is such a dumb dumb.” Tong watched as the Arcane Guardian walked clumsily to the dome entrance like a fool, then it could not get up any further. From the stairway, it saw the three of them on the other platform and stupidly walked back down to the hallway again.
“It is an Arcane Guardian, it’s not too intelligent, and can only carry out simple orders.”
“Jeez, too bad the stairway is too small. If it were bigger, it would have slipped off the platform and fallen straight down. It will take us some time to fight it this way.” Tong naively said after seeing that the Boss’s Health was only cleared by a small fraction.
“You should be grateful and glad that we’re facing this type of Boss. If it were a Humanoid Boss, don’t even think about it slipping off when they can just cut off our ropes.” Li Yao explained while he was taking aim. He was prepared to attack as he waited for the Boss to walk out of the corridor.
“Their intelligence can’t be that high, right?” ShadowDancer interjected.
“You’re such a big dummy!” Tong felt discouraged after hearing Li Yao’s explanation. She immediately scolded ShadowDancer like a big lady boss when he started speaking. “Didn’t you see the Elites cutting off the lasso earlier? You’re so stupid, I shouldn’t have brought you here if I knew you were really that stupid. You’re embarrassing me,” she yelled indignantly.
“My bad, I’m stupid.” ShadowDancer did not dare to retort. He stopped speaking.
“Alright now, stop bullying ShadowDancer. The Boss it out now, hurry up and attack. I don’t know how many times we are going to have to keep up with this.” Fengyi laughed.
“Okay then, I will fight for the sake of good equipment.” Tong immediately recited her spell.
Clanking sounds were heard when the attacks landed on the Boss’s body, what followed was pitifully low single digit damage figures.
“Fengyi, get ready.” Li Yao unwittingly called her by her real name.
“I know.” Fengyi was unperturbed, her real name was not much of a secret.
Her eyes twinkled and were fixated on the Boss’s movements.
As the Boss lifted its arms and an Arcane bullet was about to take shape, she began to recite her spell.
Boom…
The summoned skeleton was blown apart tragically once more. It rolled and fell down, like a rain of bones.
Since Li Yao’s attack damage was the highest, the Boss Rage was always targeted on him. It would only unleash its only long-range skill at Li Yao.
Of course, if someone else were to get in its way, it would not hesitate to send them back to the graveyard.
The viewers in front of the TV and fans who were watching the livestream were dumbstruck. Although their attack damage was not much, at least the Boss’s Health was slowly decreasing. Now, they could see a portion of the Boss’s Health being reduced.
TV station.
Reading countless text messages, Tina revealed a hint of smile. “Many viewers have asked, Women Charmer KB, what do you think of the current situation? Many people are once again happy to see you get hit in the face by master Liao Yuan again.”
KB, whose mood was relaxed before, was almost in tears again. Every time he reaffirmed his doubts with facts and reasons to prove that Liao Yuan’s team would not be able to pass the stage, he would get smacked in the face.
This was the second time now, he felt as though he was smacked on the left and right cheeks. Not only did Liao Yuan use various methods that could be used by anyone to reach the second platform, their squad was beginning to wear down the Boss’s Health.
Oh lord, this was the Boss that current players were not able to beat, and where did this Liao Yuan guy come from? There was no end to his wild plans. When KB saw the edge of Li Yao’s lips curl slightly, he knew that things would not go well for him. Things had been going so well for Li Yao, but how could he be like this, he should let other people have their moments.
KB was just trying to do a good job for his commentary for once, and he thought that he could have a pleasant time dissing players.
But he could not let his feelings be revealed.
He could only force a smile. “This Liao Yuan dude is indeed remarkable, but this Boss fighting method isn’t that big of a feat.”
Tina laughed. “Ozawa just sent in a message and said otherwise, she said that Liao Yuan is awesome and think he’s a genius. It seems that Ozawa and you have differing opinions.”
Pfft…
KB’s face instantly turned purple, he was being played by Tina again, but there was no use crying over spilt milk. “This Boss’s intelligence is too low, it only has a lot of Health. If this were a Humanoid Boss, this method wouldn’t work and is not recommended.”
“Huh? That was what Liao Yuan said.” Tina shrugged.
KB looked up at the ceiling…
“Haha, don’t get angry KB, it’s just a little joke.” Tina unveiled the topic, “Fellow viewers, I’m sure you all know that the stage clearance strategy that Liao Yuan has created is highly recommended. As everyone has seen earlier, gaining Exp points and leveling up is faster this way. Some guilds have hired skilled Hunter players and have started to clear the first platform. They have sent in their reports, and people are drooling over the Blue-equipment that they have obtained.”
“So, how is their progress?” KB asked.
Of course, he knew that this method of clearing the stage was effective. It allowed players to level up quickly even though many players had failed and suffered heavy losses. But guilds would not give up that easily as they were tempted by the bountiful Exp points and Blue-equipment. To clear out the first platform, it required a lot of process and skills, hence the demand for Hunter players was high.
“There are a lot of strong guilds, including those in other districts, that have cleared the first platform, but the second platform is simply too difficult for them.”
Next was the video clips of other guilds on the second platform, the audience also cheered for them. Then, they sadistically enjoyed witnessing the tragic deaths of players from various guilds and combat teams at the hands of the Elite mobs. They felt an inexplicable satisfaction deep in their hearts.
There was a lot going on in the clips.
It was either the Shaman and Necromancer who could not synchronize their skills, or the Hunter who could not work perfectly with the rest.
Guilds that were rich in resources finally got their hands on a Ballista and Heavy Crossbows.
Even so, they had to shoot the Elite’s knee from far away when the timing was right. Currently, there was no such Hunter that could do it other than Li Yao.
One by one, the teams that were trying to clear the stage died miserably, all of the Exp points they had gained were lost. Many big guilds were furious, Liao Yuan had devised a strategy to kill the Boss that was on the second platform, the target was so close yet so far. They were still failing miserably at the second platform.
As they watched Liao Yuan and the others steadily eat up the Boss’s Health, these major guilds and clubs were getting so worried that their hair had turned white. They had everything they needed in front of them, but they still could not get it.
“Seems like that’s the end of the journey for these guilds,” KB sighed.
“There are so many people playing this game, is there no one else that can compete with Liao Yuan?”
“There is, StarFire. His archery skills are excellent and he can play with heavy crossbows pretty slickly.” KB replied.
“What about the others? There are so many players out there, it can’t be just these two, right?”
“As for the Hunter class, it is at a pretty awkward position. Not just every guild but Liao Yuan himself has said it before. With the same equipment, the Hunter’s damage is more inferior to the damage caused by other classes, but that’s not the main thing. The main thing is, under Free Mode, those archer gods from before are now useless. They might still have the mastery, but their hits can’t keep up.”
“You mean, as long as they have adapted to it, these experts might make a comeback?” Tina asked suddenly.
“Maybe so, but the adaptation period will take a very long time. Hunter weapons are too complicated, my guess is in the future there might be experts who specialize in one or two types of weapons. But for players like Liao Yuan, I’m afraid he might be the one and only. Besides, you have to take note of the purpose of gaming, how many people are willing to spend months and years to master archery? Players that play as Hunters are basically practicing it as a religion.”
After reading the text messages, a bunch of audience wanted them to return to Liao Yuan and his squad’s broadcast. “It seems like other guilds have failed, now let us return to Liao Yuan and his squad’s livestream and see how their progress is like.”
On the dome.
“Big Bro, I’ve run out of Mana!” Tong said helplessly. “I drank a potion just now,” she added on.
Now, they had already reduced one fifth of the Boss’s Health, but AdorkableTong’s Mana had been depleted.
“Now that you’ve no Mana, let your totem attack first, we will go to the first platform later. You return to the ground away from the battlefield to replenish Mana, let ShadowDancer take your place.” Li Yao said while attacking the Boss.
“Why not make a fourth rope lane? This way I can help out with my attacks.” ShadowDancer asked.
“There’s no good position left. We can make another rope lane, but the placement will be too close to the corridor and it will attract the Elite’s Rage and will not work. In other places, the dome cannot fit more people to attack. This way, it’s better for two people to move around, and one extra rope lane will make things complicated.”

“Let me say one more thing.” Tong did not require Li Yao to command her anymore. When she saw that the Boss was almost at the second platform, she cleverly grabbed the rope and climbed to the first platform. “You’re a bandit, once you come up you can only attack with crossbow but your damage is too low, so there’s no difference if you’re here or not. Besides, the Boss’s Rage is easily messed up. If it were not for Big Bro’s kindness, he would’ve kicked you out long ago. With just the three of us fighting the Boss, its Health would’ve at least been reduced by 10,000.”
“Tong, you shouldn’t have said that, everyone has their own role here. ShadowDancer is restricted by his class, that’s why he’s not suitable in this stage. However, he’s still one of our squad members, we can’t just abandon him whenever we want. What if next time the stage is not suitable for a Shaman, does that mean we will kick you out too? Now that we’re a team, we have to share the honor and shame together. That is how a team can last forever.” Li Yao immediately said.
“Thank you, Boss. There’s nothing more for me to say, now watch me.” ShadowDancer was excited, he knew that not only would he gain honor after participating in the stage, his prestige would also increase. Deep down, he knew that he would be the first to get kicked out if he were with other guilds.
“Alright, let’s not dwell on this. Once Tong gets down, you’ll take her place. You’ve seen the entire process, everything should be okay, right?” Li Yao smiled. Now that he had the future Bandit Apotheosis in his squad, he would not let him leave the team. Forget about the extra 10,000 Boss Health, even if they failed this stage, he had earned something even more valuable.
“No problem, let me show you what I have,” said ShadowDancer proudly.
