Chapter 36: The Ultimate Mechanical Puppet
EndlessFantasy Translation
Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation
A Firehawk Puppet sat on top of the work station in front of Li Yao. He circled around the workbench and smiled in delight.
The entire Firehawk Puppet was infused with the fire elemental essence, its metallic body reflected light which made it look slightly translucent. Since it was made of copper ore that had been purified many times, it gave off a fiery red appearance.
The two hawk eyes were made out of cheap items that Li Yao had gotten from a bargain from his shopping at the night market. The Cat-Eye Stones were sold cheap, but they were actually really precious stones.
Li Yao immediately bought the Cat-Eye Stones when he saw that they were on sale for just ten copper coins each. He finely polished the two hawk eyes. Not only were they precious, the two stones also served well as energy cores.
With the stones, the Firehawk also gained Dark Vision and hawk-eye-like properties.
The Firehawk had two special parts, one was the hawk beak and the other was the hawk’s claws that had been sharpen to the core. The claws were made of a special type of steel, it was a fusion of rare metals and a few iron ores.
Li Yao took out the Heart of the Titan. With a touch of his fingers, the Firehawk Puppet’s chest opened into a small slit.
Li Yao quickly placed the Heart of the Titan inside the slit and gave it a nudge. The small slit shut closed and nothing out of the ordinary was seen.

After the Heart of the Titan was placed inside, the Firehawk Puppet began to show traces of life. Flames sprang into life from its body, enveloping the Firehawk’s body in ethereal orangey-red flames.
As the hawk began to move, the two hawk eyes that were once frozen started to glow with life, just like how a living creature’s eyes would look like.
The pair of eyes were locked on Li Yao. Then, the Firehawk let out a metallic purr and circled around Li Yao a few times.
The Firehawk Puppet looked divine. Even without spreading its wings, it could reach as tall as Li Yao’s abdomen.
The puppet behaved like a living thing. It gently rubbed its head against Li Yao, as if it was a little pet trying to please its owner.
Li Yao gently stroked the Firehawk’s head. The Firehawk gave him a look of enjoyment.
He began to inspect the attribute details of the Firehawk Puppet that he had created.
Mechanical Firehawk Puppet
Rank: Level 4, low-level chief
Health: 4,500
Armor: 85
Flame resistance: 45
Skills: Fire Breath, Hawk Pounce, Steel Tear, Fiery Feather Scatter
Characteristics: Courageous, Intelligent
Status: Youth
Life form: Mechanical intelligent form, able to grow and evolve
Li Yao stared at the attributes in disbelief. His lips were almost crooked for having smiled too much.
He could not help but be overjoyed. In comparison to a Boss, there was a certain gap in terms of both Health and skills.
But now the Puppet was still a youth. It was capable of growing bigger and evolving further.
Once a Hunter had turned a beast or machine into a pet, the pet was able to grow, but only in Levels. The pet’s skills were basically set and locked, it would not be able to learn more skills even if the pet leveled up.
However, the Firehawk was capable of growth. After Li Yao had adopted it as a pet, it would undergo some changes as it levels up and it would also learn new skills as its level increases.
What Li Yao anticipated was the Firehawk’s attributes once it evolves. He never thought that a machine’s body was capable of having such growth properties. What Li Yao had planned was after it had reached a higher level, he would replace the Firehawk’s body with higher grade materials and metals. That was what he meant by evolution.
In his previous life, players had come to a conclusion. Whether it was the Necromancer’s Undead pet, a Summoner’s pet or a Warlock’s Demon pet, the most basic and fundamental criterion to determine if it were a divine pet was if it had any evolutionary traits.
If the pet did not have the traits, it would not keep up no matter how much it leveled up and would be dumped eventually even if it had the best attributes at that point in time.
Pets were divided into several ranks, which were Common pet, Elite pet, Rare pet, Semi-Divine pet and Divine pet.
Li Yao studied the four skills that the Firehawk had and he was very impressed.
Although having four skills was the criteria of a Rare pet, Li Yao was not disappointed at all.
In fact, Fire Resistance was a passive skill. Fire Mages under Level 10 were basically no threat to him. Amongst the four skills, it contained single-damage skills and group-damage skills, which was pretty impressive.
Perhaps the Firehawk sensed Li Yao’s happy emotions, it owled and appeared to be beyond excited.
Mechanical Puppets, Magical Guards, Arcane Guards, and Elemental Guards were all creatures of creation.
After they had been made, if they were infused with an energy core, they would carry a certain amount of intelligence which allowed them to carry out commands of the creator.
For example, a powerful Human Mage would generally craft Elemental Guards and some strange magical artifacts to help him look after a Magical Tower. Some even more powerful Mages would summon and imprison creatures that were able to control time and space inside the Magical Tower.
The famous Grand Mage Madivin’s Magical Tower alone had two dragons. Although one was an Undead Dragon and the other was a Nether Welp, they were still undoubtedly powerful.
As for the Firehawk that Li Yao had created, although it was made of average-quality materials, its core was a Leader-tier Heart of the Titan. This core provided the Firehawk Puppet with life.
Now, the Firehawk had become his guardian, and not his pet.
Pets were able to enjoy attribute upgrades from their owners, be healed and revived, but the same could not be said for guardians. Once the guardian was destroyed, it was over.
So now Li Yao’s main priority was to level up to Level 10 or to get another Creator’s item. He could no longer wait till Level 10 as he was running out of time.
But in order to obtain that item, he had to plan out his scheme well. Getting the item was quite possible, though it would be a little risky, and the risk would be worth it. After all, the Firehawk Puppet was superb.
Li Yao could no longer hold back his excitement about the prospect of getting another incredible pet, the thought alone was invigorating. However, the Firehawk was in Guard state and bringing it along would put it in danger. Players might take it as a wild Boss and kill it, and once it was dead it would be completely destroyed. Besides, with a guardian’s aid in killing mobs, not only would it not receive any Exp gains, item drop rates would also be reduced. It was not worth it at all.
Looking at the time, it was almost morning in the game.
Li Yao felt a pang of mental exhaustion. After a night and half a day of high-intensity production, he was extremely exhausted.
Li Yao went offline and set an alarm before he went to sleep and get rested. The Firehawk Puppet stayed in the energy room as it could not get out anyway.
Whilst asleep, Li Yao began to plan a scheme of how to obtain the Creator’s item.
Li Yao agreed to the bet made by Getaway Studios to make a fortune, but he had another purpose in mind. In the high-level mob area at the stage, there was a piece of the Creator’s equipment.
This item was no match when compared to the Eye of the Creator in terms of combat.
However, from the point of view of a sub-class engineer, the item was a Divine equipment.
This item was only discovered during the seventh year of the game’s run. It was not hidden from plain sight, and to Li Yao, the high-level mobs were nothing but only Level 10 Elites.
To players who had been playing the game for seven years, it was easy for them to exterminate the mobs in that area. In the end, the item was yet to be found and the reason was quite simple.
The item was embedded onto a statue and the object was known as the Hand of the Creator. During the ancient times, the High Elves mounted the Hand of the Creator on the statue of the Sun King.
Everyone thought that the item was part of the statue and it went undetected for many years, until one day, a player who was studying engineering followed the Light Faction to slaughter the entire Silvermoon City.
When they had reached the area, they were ambushed by players of the Dark faction. A war erupted between the two.
The engineer player bombarded the players of the Dark faction with his self-made artillery. The Dark army was defeated in the end.
While players of the guild were cleaning up the battlefield, they found a pair of broken arms under the broken statue. They picked them up and they ended up in the hands of this player.
In order to break the morale of the players of the Dark faction, the guild shared the news and the attributes of the Hand of the Creator to the players.
The Dark faction was so furious to the point where they were about to throw up blood. Such a divine engineering artifact was hidden in the city for seven years only to be obtained by players of the Light Faction. There was nothing more disheartening than that piece of news.
At that time, Li Yao was also part of the Dark faction. He sighed, if only he could start over, he would definitely get this treasure. He would never let players of the Light faction take advantage of the Dark faction again, to show off or say that players of the Dark faction had low IQ.
To his surprise, this day was really coming. As long as he obtains the item, he could sign a contract with the Firehawk Puppet even though he was below Level 10. Besides that, the hands had special uses which he was super excited for.
It was a coincidence that the livestream stage contest was happening soon and Getaway Studios made a bet with him. If he could not maximize the benefits, he would be reborn for nothing.
When Li Yao went back online, it was broad daylight in the game. AdorkableTong had sent him a ton of audio messages.
Li Yao did not listen to any of the messages and deleted all of them. He then gave Tong a call, “Little girl, what’s so urgent that you had to send me a dozen voice messages?”
“Big Bro, you’re finally online! Why wouldn’t I be impatient, the livestream contest started more than an hour ago!” Tong said with slight annoyance.
“Some players started to clear stages since yesterday, if clearing stages was really that easy, we would have fallen behind since the beginning. Don’t worry and have faith in me, I’m sure of it.”
“Hmph, you do have a point. Come and look for Witch Sis and I, we have got to hurry up! I need to get champion and the main prize.”
Li Yao added AdorkableTong and HundredFaceWitch into his squad. “You don’t look like someone that is lacking money, why would you want the cash prize?” asked Li Yao.
“My sister-in-law is too evil, she’s controlling my income and spending. She said that once I grow older, I can spend as much as I want but I can wait no longer. So, I have to figure out my own ways to make money.” Tong replied unhappily.

Li Yao gave a faint smile. Although Tong was grumbling, he could still hear that Tong had a good relationship with her sister-in-law. She may be complaining, but there was no resentment in her tone. Being able to cope with someone that was so eccentric and quirky, Li Yao was curious to find out about this person.
Witch allowed the two to joke around for a moment until they had settled down. “So it’s just the three of us? Would that be enough?”
Li Yao contemplated for a moment. “The three of us is enough, however, we do need another squad member. Still, I don’t know any other credible person besides the both of you, so it’s up to you two to choose.”
Witch shook her head. “There are quite a few people that I know of, and there are people that I can trust, but I don’t think they can make it.”
AdorkableTong was humming with her arms crossed. She had her head tilted to the side, giving out the you-have-to-beg-me kind of look…
