Chapter 27: The Hunt Begins
EndlessFantasy Translation

“What is he trying to assemble? That looks kind of cool.” UltimateTruth had his eyes glued on the Firehawk Ballista.
“This, this looks like something of a High Elven style, it’s a military ballista. This is crazy! There are actual players that can assemble this, holy moly! It’s a good thing that we stayed longer.”
ShadowDay muttered, “Film properly, direct the camera angle, we will shoot from multiple angles. Once we get it done, I can guarantee you our video will go viral. If you want to be an official reporter, get this thing done and problem solved.”
UltimateTruth was paying attention now. “No way, all he did was assemble a ballista. What’s so great about it?” he asked.
ShadowDay replied patiently, “I tried to let you understand the game comprehensively, but you did not listen to me. You haven’t read the information that I’ve given you, have you?”
“I don’t have the time.” UltimateTruth answered awkwardly.
“You, sigh. Mind you, this game is backed by policy and was made to be extremely difficult. Learning a sub-class requires players to complete a set of complicated tasks. There are ten rings of tasks for each sub-class, with each ring more difficult than the previous ones. Until now, there are only a few players that have learned a different sub-class. Most players are waiting to learn once they have reached Level 10 and have earned enough money.”
After ShadowDay had explained so much, UltimateTruth still did not understand. “Even if it is difficult, but there are still hundreds of millions of players, especially powerful guilds that are training players. There are also quite a number of players that are learning sub-classes, so what’s the big deal about him being able to assemble a ballista?”
“Why don’t you get it? Alright, let’s take engineering as an example. It is useless at the beginning as you can only make some explosive powder, firecrackers, steel rods, screws, etc. Based on what I know, it is impossible for players to get their engineering proficiency to intermediate level at the moment. The proficiency limit is nine hundred, and the remaining hundred requires one hundred ores. Not even the big guilds have that much. It requires almost twenty gold coins to upgrade your proficiency to nine hundred.”
“No way, twenty gold coins just to learn to make crap?”
“What do you think? Besides, ballista is a military item. From the information I was given, items belonging to military engineering are classified and were not given to players. Not even mobs or Bosses would drop the blueprints. But look at him, he was trained and could disassemble the old ballistae and used only a few minutes to make a new one. I can guarantee that this player here is a special one. You tell me, is this footage valuable?”
“So, he’s really this good. Luckily you’re here since you know so much.” Ultimate’s eyes glittered with excitement. “I’m sorry Shadow bro, you gave me so much information but I thought you were trying to bully newcomers. I’ve heard from other newcomers that they were not treated this way. Now I understand that you care for me and you’re passing down your knowledge to me. I was even unimpressed with your decision earlier.”
ShadowDay laughed, “It’s nothing. Those licensed journalists look down on us game journalists and think we’re non-professionals. I heard this from my mentor, but I did not understand it back then, now I do. Next time, watch and learn, don’t let those journalists underestimate us again.”
“I’ll do my best. I’ll finish reading up on the information once I go offline today.” UltimateTruth realized the importance of the information. The information was collected from various sources and organized by ShadowDay himself. Deep inside, he had a heartfelt admiration toward Shadow.
ShadowDay gave him a pat on the shoulder. “No need to rush, take your time.”
UltimateTruth nodded and felt that his heart was on fire.
What he did not know was that one day, he would walk amongst top journalists and become a world-famous journalist.
In the Mine arena, Li Yao winched the ballista’s heavy string and placed a huge arrow that was over two yards in length. The arrow’s tip glimmered, giving off a hint of murderous aura.
Li Yao adjusted the ballista’s firing angle. At the corner of his eyes, the Boss’s profile was shown on the screen.
Mine Puppet
Rank: Level 5 low-level Leader
Health: 5,000
Skills: Hammer Shock, Lightning Berserk, Manic Slice, Flywheel of Death, Heavy Stomp, Berserk Rip
Mok’rash
Rank: Level 5 low-level Leader
Health: 3,000
Skills: Explosive Barrels, Time-Bomb, Lethal Shot, Death Grenades
There was another creature inside of the puppet that was controlling it. The creature had gone mad due to the corrupted Sunwell energy. Its life was entwined with the puppet.
To beat this Boss, players had to break the puppet and kill the creature inside, Mok’rash, to win. This Boss was divided into two stages.
Members of Getaway Studios could not even beat the first stage, let alone the more powerful second-stage Boss. Moreover, the Boss’s Health added up to 8,000. With twenty five players facing the Boss, the Boss’s Health would be even more terrifying.
Even if they beat the first stage, they would faint the moment they see another Boss emerge from the metal scraps.
“Damn, he’s aiming at the Boss, he’s starting a Boss fight. He must be insane for attempting to solo a Boss.” UltimateTruth could not believe what he was seeing.
“Pay close attention, let’s find the best angle for our footage. I think we’re going to make a fortune out of this.” ShadowDay was excited as he did not expect to encounter someone that would solo a Boss. Even if he fails, his use of military items was enough to bring other players to shock.
Li Yao constantly adjusted the Ballista’s angle. This kind of Ballista was less accurate than a bow, and even Li Yao dared not use it carelessly. The user required a lot of experience and acute judgement in operating the Ballista.
In his eyes, a red area appeared in the joint seam of the giant puppet’s arms. Li Yao had to shoot the huge steel arrow into the puppet’s joint.
The game system would do its best to rationalize the Boss. For example, players could shoot the puppet’s joints, which could weaken the Boss’s ability to move.
The difference in the size or toughness of the material of the arrow resulted in different outcomes. For instance, the steel arrow he was using was at least the thickness of a child’s arm.
Judging by Li Yao’s previous experience with operating a military Ballista, this steel arrow could jam the Mech-Puppet’s joints for at least two minutes and at most three minutes.
Li Yao needed to jam the puppet’s mechnical sledgehammer arm. This was because the hammer’s Lightning Berserk skill was a Locked skill and could not be evaded at all. As for the Boss’s electric saw, Li Yao was confident in his dodging skills.
The puppet’s movement speed was not very fast.
Clang, clang, clang…
Following the puppet’s heavy footsteps, Li Yao felt his heart jump. It was as if his heartbeat was resonating with the puppet’s footsteps.
The puppet was getting closer to Li Yao, his steel arms were flailing.
Finally, when they were about a hundred fifty yards apart, Li Yao squinted his eyes.
“Now is the time.”
A whistling sound pierced through the air.
A steel arrow was released.
Thwack…
The huge steel arrow penetrated into the puppet’s arm joint. The once swinging arm was jammed dead on the joint. With the arrow’s great force, the puppet turned around violently.

A shocking number appeared above the puppet’s head, even Li Yao’s eyelids twitched at the sight. The damage was one tenth of the puppet’s Health.
It was a pity that he could no longer stay by the Ballista’s side, otherwise the Boss would destroy the Ballista.
Following the piercing metallic sound, the five-yard tall giant puppet fell onto the ground. The entire mountain rumbled.
Li Yao let out a sigh of relief and hurriedly reloaded the arrows on the winch.
Just then, he heard someone saying, “Wow, that’s cool.”
Li Yao felt his heart sank and looked in the direction of the voice.
He quickly took out his bow and shot an arrow into the seam, a human figure appeared.
“It’s a misunderstanding!” ShadowDay deactivated his Stealth mode and blocked UltimateTruth. “It’s a misunderstanding great StarFire! We’re journalists, game journalists! Here, this is our permit issued by the game system. We did not intend to spy on you, we were just recording footage of Getaway Studios and we do not have any relations with them. Please proceed with whatever that you’re doing, we will disturb you no more. I promise.”
“I’m also recording this.” Li Yao turned on his recorder to record their conversation and work permit. If they dared to disturb players, he would send the evidence to the administrators. The administrators would punish them according to the severity of the situation.
“I understand, you should carry on.” ShadowDay said in a hurry. He then private messaged UltimateTruth, “What’s the matter with you, why didn’t you say it in private chat?”
UltimateTruth replied guiltily, “I was too surprised and I forgot. I’ve never seen anyone play like that, so accurate at that.”
“Forget it, be careful next time. If we run into someone grumpy, we won’t be that lucky anymore and we might lose our recording material too.”
“I know, there won’t be a next time.” UltimateTruth apologized quickly. His attitude was much better than it was before.
Li Yao was no longer concerned now that he knew that those guys were just journalists. There was no use for him to stop them as journalists had the permission to record. He was just surprised and quickly returned back to his senses.
Pop pop pop…
Li Yao moved away from the Ballista and placed three Arrow Towers in position. The puppet was still on the ground and was out of the towers’ range.
He would try his best to contain the fight on the other side of the arena to preserve the Ballista. If the Ballista were destroyed, he would not stand a chance in killing the Boss.
Li Yao held his Heavy Crossbow and took aim. He pulled the trigger and the arrow was released.
Clang…
The powerful steel arrow smashed into the puppet’s body, sending out sparks of flames.

“His defense is sick.”
Li Yao saw the puppet getting up. He then threw the metallic little dragon that was swirling around his own arm under his feet.
The golden little dragon swirled around Li Yao in a circle and disappeared into thin air. This was a trap. It would hide itself once it was placed.
Only Li Yao could see the trap, he controlled the dragon to move to a corner.
This was the Snake Trap that he had made. He wanted to use snakes for the trap, but during its production he decided to add Arcane Essence and Essence Ball dropped by a dead Mana Wyrm. The Essence Ball, also called the mana ball, was an arcane ball formed when the Mana Wyrm huddled up into a ball after its death.
After it was created, it became a Mech-Dragon that was almost three to four yards long. This trap was portable and Li Yao added poison to it, but the biggest feature of this trap was Restraint. The Mech-Dragon could entangle and bind the enemy.
Li Yao really liked this manoeuvrable Snake Trap. He would like to experiment more with it to create various effects.
Click, click, click…
The Mine Puppet regained his footing. Now that one of his arms was temporarily disabled, he was walking in a lopsided and comical way.
Li Yao changed into his self-made bow. He used Stunning Arrows to slow down the Boss, then proceeded with Arcane Shot and Charged Arrow.
The Arrow Towers that were placed in various positions began firing arrows.
With all of the attacks at once, the puppet’s body began to create sparks.

“Damn you shorty! You have angered Mok’rash!”

With the buzzing sound of the electric saw, a spinning flywheel was violently thrown out by the Mech-Puppet. The gigantic flywheel crashed onto the tunnel.
The contact resulted in sparks. The flywheel had left a deep gash on the cave wall.
Li Yao continued to fire at the puppet while taking note of the time. He used Shadow Flip to dodge the flywheel when it was about to hit him.
Click, click. The Mine Puppet ran toward Li Yao with a strange gait.
Li Yao stared at it and composed himself, he could not afford to make mistakes. If he were touched, it would be an instant death…
