Chapter 49: I Never Said We’re Letting It Go

_Min_

The cardiac surgery department at Lin’s First Hospital was undoubtedly a top contender in the entire Great Xia Empire.

The chief physician, with over three decades of medical experience, had faced many challenging cases.

Yet, this one was unlike any other.

He had initially thought the surgery would inevitably end in failure, but to his astonishment, it had succeeded.

His years of surgical experience led him to a realization: before the patient was brought to the hospital, someone must have administered crucial preliminary treatment.

This simple first step was life-changing, pulling the patient back from the brink of death.

Mrs. Chen, who had yet to enter the patient room, halted her steps.

She spun around, her eyes widening in disbelief, and her voice spiked, “What did you just say?!”

“You’re welcome,” Si Fuqing responded with a slight nod and a smile, “Is the patient out of danger now?”

“Yes, yes, thanks to you,” the chief physician exhaled deeply. “I have some questions; may I consult with you later?”

“I’m afraid I don’t have the time,” Si Fuqing smiled, turning her attention elsewhere. “Officer, slapping false charges on someone without reason amounts to defamation, doesn’t it? Is that punishable?”

The officer hesitated momentarily, then said, “Yes, it is.”

“What nonsense are you spouting!”

Hearing this, Mrs. Chen’s face flushed red, and her earlier arrogance diminished considerably.

Yet, she couldn’t bring herself to believe that Si Fuqing had not only avoided causing an accident but had saved a life instead.

She gripped the chief physician’s hand, her voice tinged with urgency, “Doctor, please explain exactly what happened?”

“Ah, Mrs. Chen,” the physician seemed to recognize her just then, nodding slightly. “Your sister fell ill suddenly, suffering from severe cardiac insufficiency.”

“Without this young lady’s immediate first aid, even if she had been brought here, we would’ve been helpless.”

At this point, the chief physician felt a touch of shame.

He was already in his fifties.

But even in the field of medicine, talent played a role.

He had much to learn.

The chief physician sighed, then inquired, “Mrs. Chen, did you bring this young lady here specifically to thank her?”

“Uh, I, uh…” Mrs. Chen’s face turned even redder, if possible. She wished the earth would open up and swallow her whole.

Nurses bustled around them, their glances piercing through her like thorns.

“Mrs. Chen, since the misunderstanding has been cleared, we’ll take our leave,” said the officer, visibly displeased but still maintaining courtesy. “Wasting police resources won’t be tolerated again.”

Madam Chen was further embarrassed, stammering, “Officer, I was just worried and confused, 1—”

The officer didn’t wait to hear more and quickly left the scene.

“I’ll go change my clothes,” the chief physician finally took a breather, again showing his respect to Si Fuqing. “If you have time, Miss Si, please allow me the honor of learning from you.”

Si Fuqing neither nodded nor shook her head; she merely smiled, “Perhaps.”

The corridor suddenly emptied as people dispersed.

With everyone gone, Madam Chen’s arrogance resurfaced.

She pulled out a check from her wallet, disdain mixed with a trace of impatience. “Fine, you saved my sister, and I should thank you. Here’s a hundred thousand. Take it.”

Si Fuqing’s departure from the Zuo family was well-known in the city of Lin’s social circles. A hundred thousand was a sizable sum for her.

Watching the young lady take the check, Madam Chen’s contempt deepened.

Indeed, money could accomplish anything.

“Quite the fortune,” Si Fuqing remarked, deliberately tearing the check into tiny pieces and scattering them over Madam Chen’s head.

She squinted her fox-like eyes, smiling with a dash of malice. “How impressive.”

Mrs. Chen was momentarily stunned.

“Madam!” The butler stepped forward, supporting her and shouting, “Miss, you’ve gone too far.”

Si Fuqing casually descended the stairs, “Want to see what ‘too far’ really is?”

Regaining her senses, Mrs. Chen fumed, “Kicked out by the Zuo family, and here you are, flaunting your might! I won’t let this go! You’re a celebrity, right?

I’ll make sure you’re dragged through the mud online!”

“Calm down, Madam,” the butler advised, “the patient is still inside.”

Mrs. Chen’s eyes flickered, “Alright, wait for me here. I’ll go check on her.”

Outside the hospital.

Si Fuqing had just stepped down from the staircase.

“Wait! Miss Si, please wait,” the chief physician hurried out, “How long have you been studying medicine?”

“Let me think,” Si Fuqing pondered, “I learned it in a game, so perhaps several decades.”

The chief physician was speechless.

Miss Si seemed to suffer from something called “adolescent delusions.”

Regardless, it was her private matter, so he didn’t inquire further, “Here’s my card, you’re always welcome.”

Si Fuqing waved her hand lazily and continued walking.

“Squeal!”

Just then, a car made a sharp turn and screeched to a halt before her.

Si Fuqing paused.

The rear door opened, revealing a familiar upright figure.

Si Fuqing bent slightly, “Boss, what brings you here?”

Was this matter significant enough to warrant Yu Xihengs presence?

Yu Xiheng sized her up as if confirming something.

Seconds later, he leaned forward, pressing down on a tuft of hair sticking up from her head.

The distance between them closed in an instant, and the fragrance of the night-blooming osmanthus intensified.

Si Fuqing felt murderous, “Don’t. Touch!”

Yu Xiheng’s eyebrows twitched; this time, he ruffled her hair.

Si Fuqing smiled, “…”

Who is this man?

Is he deliberately stunting her growth?

Si Fuqing took a deep breath, boarded the car, and just as she was about to sit, she quickly reached out and touched the man’s waist.

Taut, solid, warm.

Yu Xiheng paused, his eyes deepening.

Si Fuqing looked at him unabashedly, “You touched me, I touched you, we’re even now. ”

One had to admit, his muscles felt excellent.

A good deal, indeed.

Feng San, who had witnessed something he shouldn’t have, wondered if he’d be silenced later.

Seeing Yu Xiheng’s lack of reaction, Feng San hesitated, then pulled out his phone to send a message in an internal chat group.

[Would Brother Nine ‘snip’ me if I saw something I shouldn’t have?]

The message detonated like a depth charge, surfacing all lurking members.

[You’re done for.]

[I can’t believe you have a day like this, Feng San. Once you’re gone, I can protect the master.]

[Should the master chop or steam him first? Hmm, which would taste better?]

[Quit talking nonsense. Given the master’s personality, a single glance would be enough for someone to drag you away.] [Let me do the just work of penalizing Feng San!]

Feng San:

Not good, he was visualizing it.

He coldly pocketed his phone, deciding to stand behind Si Fuqing from now on.

This spot seemed safer.

“Miss Si, in future situations like this, don’t be so kind-hearted,” Feng San frowned, “Just call Brother Nine. Resolving such trivial matters is easy.”

The Chen family ofLin?

Insignificant.

“Don’t worry,” Si Fuqing said lazily, “I was just testing if my medical skills have deteriorated. If something were to go wrong while treating the boss, that would be negligence on my part.”

Her money couldn’t run away.

Feng San paused, “The doctor said the person who pulled the patient back from the brink of death was Miss Si?”

“A modest effort,” Si Fuqing propped her chin, “It was so-so.”

Feng San pursed his lips.

He knew very well that not just anyone in Lin City was familiar with Madam Chen’s sister. Her heart condition had left even the physicians of Sijiu City helpless.

And yet, Si Fuqing had managed.

“Brother Nine, so we’re letting this go?” Feng San’s frown deepened, “What about the Chen family?”

Yu Xiheng remained impassive, elbow on the armrest, his voice slow, “I never said we’re letting it go..”
