Chapter 733

The level of the soul was one’s basic foundation, while the growth of the body was like constructing a well-built building. So with a strong foundation, it was only natural for the value of the well-built building to soar. This was akin to why a hotel on an uninhabited island and one in the heart of a city differed in value. Furthermore, the building’s quality could be holistically improved using suitable additions depending on the natural surroundings.

Davey stood as straight and tall as a skyscraper as he realized he could now use 9th Circle magic with ease. This meant one thing: he was capable of utilizing the entirety of Arbit’s power.

Normally, Arbit’s control of time did not extend to beings outside. However, the power of taboo—the Sin of God—allowed Davey to become the ruler of the Red Void and make the powerful force work for him. He was astonished that he could yield such immense results by utilizing this power effectively.

Interestingly enough, it would have taken Davey a whopping three hundred years to fully develop and use this power if not for Arbit’s unconventional training method. With conventional methods, he would have emerged from isolation only to find an unfamiliar world marked by centuries of change. This was the most amount of time Arbit could skip for Davey. Three centuries may seem inconsequential upon first glance, relative to Davey’s drastically increased lifespan as a demi-god, but there was still a noticeable difference when he used his body.

Thud!

After instantly taking down one mutant, Davey became anxious on whether his uncle had actually returned to his original state with the elixir. Regardless of his own curiosity, though, he knew there wasn’t anything more he could do to help the man. His priority right now was to deal with this mutant—only then he could worry about other matters.

Arbit was able to stay satisfied knowing the truth about Hercules and what happened ten thousand years ago. Davey, however, had his priority set on the rampaging red mutant in the Red Void—he didn’t have time to seek the truth. Nevertheless, he was planning to go back and learn about it later after catching the mutant.

“It’ll be alright. Time is on my side,” Davey muttered. He knew Arbit would wait for him. For an enemy to enter the Red Void and threaten Arbit’s safety would be a monumental task, even for powerful beings like Eclipse or a high-level Malicious Spirit.

“Anyway, how on earth do I find a mutant that escaped like that?” Davey muttered. He then suddenly felt the presence of other people. He turned his gaze and saw many fully armed soldiers and Awakened individuals looking at him.

The surroundings around him were already in ruins.

“It looks like I caused quite a stir,” Davey said.

Buzz…

His phone started ringing again. Just as he expected, it was a direct call from the President.

“Hello.”

– Ah! You finally answered your phone!

“Is there a problem? It’s pretty late in the night to be calling.”

The sky in Shanghai was already dark, illuminated only by the surrounding lights.

– I had no choice! I’m in big trouble. Right now there’s…

“A mutant?”

– … oh, you already know.

“There are more important things to do right now, so let’s talk later.”

– Wait a minute! There’s one more thing!

“One more thing?”

– That is… His Holiness Bill Gericault, the leader of the Neltarid Church, was murdered some time ago. The problem is that there are absurd rumors going around saying that you’re the assassin…

“…”

Davey pressed the end call button without saying a word—that wasn’t news to him. Instead of talking with the President, he had other things to do, mainly hunting down the escaped convict from Arbit’s time prison.

Although mutants were powerful monsters, the mutant that fled the Red Void was on another level. Despite both being mutants, their nature was totally different. But the mutant that escaped was nothing but danger and trouble.

[My lord, it will gradually regain its intelligence. I advise you to be careful, even if you’re only facing with one of them.]

Davey looked around but didn’t see the mutant he was after—either it was exceptionally smart and knew someone would try to follow it or its primal instincts warned it of incoming danger so it ran off. The latter would save him the time otherwise spent playing mind games or using tactics. There were other mutants trying to approach Davey, but he had no intention of wasting time on them.

Unless the mutant had gotten significantly smarter in this short period of time, Davey figured it would be lurking around somewhere mindlessly devouring everything in sight. He continued his search while taking care of the mutants along the way.

Bang!

He lightly jumped and spurred off a half-destroyed building.

[9th Circle Elemental Magic]

[Mana Wave]

All mutants had the same few vulnerabilities on account of their shared mana wavelength.

A tremendous amount of energy flowed within his body. He was having a hard time adjusting to the feeling of his soul and body not having a gap between them.

“Whoa…”

As he took a short breath, the power of taboo began to bloom and spread across his body.

‘Not now. It’s not your turn yet,’ Davey thought as he barely suppressed the force. Using his current location as the center, he spread the mana wave throughout the entire surrounding area.

The magic swiftly spread and contracted in waves as it used special wavelengths to locate the mutants. If his uncle was anything to go by, he figured he wouldn’t be able to finish them using weak normal magic—his strategy was to work smarter, not harder.

He took out Odin’s staff, Transcendence’s Demise, and created a huge ring of flame in the air. The red flame soon condensed into a dark blue circle of light as he gently spun the ring with the tip of the staff top.

Raising it high in the air he said, “Expand.”

The ring was only a little thicker than a human arm at first, but it instantly turned into a figure reminiscent of a gigantic donut.

[Transformation Magic]

[Reversion]

[Black Nova]

The huge flame ring began rotating at high speed. Davey then spread it everywhere as if conjuring a shockwave. His locating strategy worked wonders as his magic acquired and attacked its targets with ease.

The dark blue flames rose into the sky and quickly dissolved into hundreds of thousands of shooting stars, blanketing the area in a fiery rain. The stunning power and visual impact of the cosmic inferno gave the impression of a wrathful god delivering karmic retribution.

Shanghai was a place with a large population, serving as the ideal location for one of the main branches of the Illuminati. The organization made manipulated these many mutants as pawns to a shocking extent for the advancement of their own experimental research.

Davey figured it was as good an option as any for them when faced with his imminent wrath. Unfortunately for them, it was too little too late—now that he’d caught them, their fates were already determined.

Thud!!! Thud!!

Huge explosions rang out one after the other. Davey stood alone at the top of the building, closing his eyes in concentration as he held his staff. He ignored the approaching helicopters, unleashing another wave. His previous attack had resulted in a large number of mutant corpses, but he was only left with disappointment when the red mutant he was looking for was not among those slain.

Davey figured the news would have spread as he had caused a scene. He picked up the cell phone from a fallen body. He had heard that China had strict media control, but he thought he’d give it a try. Fortunately, the phone wasn’t locked. While browsing through the smartphone, he saw an absurd article that gave him pause.

“…”

Chop, chop, chop.

Helicopters surrounded him and drowned his figure in blinding spotlights like the main character in a theater production as the leader shouted something at him. He assumed they were probably warning him to stop causing damage to the city, but was too absorbed in the smartphone’s screen to listen to them closely.

The forces were in a difficult position as they contemplated how to handle the situation. While mutants were clearly enemies who threatened public safety, they couldn’t easily discern the intentions of the monster who suddenly appeared and brought destruction to the city. Their aggressiveness showed they’d rather err on the side of caution. Just when the helicopters were about to make a move to subdue Davey, the pilots’ screams of horror rang out. A massive earthen giant had slowly risen up behind the target, casting them all in its enormous shadow

[Contractor. Have you regained your strength?]

“For now,” Davey muttered calmly.

Gnoass was the Earth Spirit King. It was literally the spirit of earth and so, it had no limits on how big it could become. It all depended on the summoner’s ability to sustain it.

“Stay here while I deal with these people getting in the way.”

[I will comply with your request.]

“There are mutants nearby that I have to deal with. Take care of these clowns and make sure the survivors are safe.”

[Why?]

“That way, I have something to say to them later on.”

Davey reactivated the magic circle. The frightened soldiers regained their composure, getting into position and preparing to face whatever this monster had in store for them. Their efforts proved meaningless, watching in shock as Gnoass’s body collapsed.

The earth beneath them suddenly split as huge earthen hands emerged, forcing the helicopters to the ground as it blocked the tanks. The soldiers trembled with fear and astonishment at such overwhelming physical prowess.

Flap, flap…

Activating all of the magic circles, pure white wings stretched out of Davey’s back as he drew the pure white bow now in his hands. He began taking aim for his target, having discovered it hundreds of kilometers in the distance. Though even he was skeptical at sniping his enemy from so far away, the swimming red mutant wavelength’s clear intent to enter the territorial waters of Japan left him with no other alternative.

[God’s Middle Finger]

The enormous concentration of divine power turned into an arrow.

[9th Circle Wind Type]

[Cyclone]

Davey casted wind-based magic and nocked a second arrow. He wasn’t going to leave any chance that the target could get away.

Swoosh!

The pristine white arrow could be seen piercing through the dark night sky. Knowing his arrow would strike true, he prepared to go collect his quarry…

Suddenly, a red spear came barreling toward Davey. He managed to dodge it just in time. Although the red color matched his target, the mutant clearly hadn’t managed to teleport hundreds of kilometers away and attack Davey.

“Hmm… I’ve been interested in you since I heard you killed Antares,” said a mysterious woman.

Davey turned his head as a bundle of mysterious tentacles wrapped around his body. The woman looked like an octopus with a human’s torso. What stood out the most was her bald head, shining without a single strand of hair.

“You sure got a shiny head,” Davey commented. He then remembered Kain saying that most people in Atlantis were bald. Realizing her origins, Davey smiled and locked eyes with her.

“A Malicious Spirit, eh? I heard the lower-ranking ones are all dead except for the 9th ranked one.”

“Oh, that’s not a very considerate thing to say. I’m higher in rank than my compatriot Antares. If I remember correctly, you set him up in a trap, didn’t you?” she joked.

“Oh, is that so? Well then my bad, I didn’t realize because you just look so weak,” Davey responded with a smile on his face. Ready for action, Davey grasped the tentacles binding him and ripped them apart.

“If you were going to come, you should have come earlier and saved me some time. Anyhow, it would appear someone’s a bit too full of themselves. Come on then, I’ll give you a chance to show me what gives you the right to be so arrogant. Meet me at the playground after school, and bring your red bleeding clothes.”

‘Though haven’t we already basically made this area ours? And wait, this body is 300 years too old to be in school’ Davey thought, trying his best to contain his laughter.
