Chapter 621
[As the embodiment of human desires that flow through this land, listen to my voice.]
Davey’s clear voice echoed all around.
Crack!
Davey pierced the ground with the bone-crafted Magic Sword, and all it took was one clean motion.
“Listen to the rumble of the earth and heed the whispering of the wind.”
He drew the sword and held it aloft toward the sky with a practiced and precise stance.
[Symbol of tranquility and the very essence of Divine Beasts, listen to my voice.]
Once more, the Magic Sword was swung.
Slash!!
A great wound was inflicted on his arm, and the sword’s surface was fed with his blood that flowed out from his sliced skin.
Woong!
Slowly, as the desire for great power started to gather, the might of the Four Divine Beasts also began to intensify.
The source of this world and the one from the world Woochi lived in were the same. And now… The being Davey wished to summon was essentially an absolute Divine Beast of this world.
Even in terms of sheer power, the Yellow Dragon surpassed the Spirit Kings and in certain situations, could even rival the peak state of the King of Mythical Beasts. Then, would it be meaningless to summon one? Such doubts were practically nonsensical from the start.
In certain circumstances, the Divine Beasts were more efficient, and the three Kings of Mythical Beasts had become so powerful that they were entirely separate entities from the usual summoned beasts. It was foolish to think that a freshly awakened Divine Beast could overcome them.
Qilin, Haitai, the Yellow Dragon.
One of the three mighty Divine Beasts now opened its eyes to heed Davey’s will.
The prayers of the people in this land were not wholly in vain, even though the gods had neglected them for a millennia.
For that faith became a yearning. Then it transmuted into power that materialized into a formidable being. So essentially, a Divine Beast was merely a way to bring consciousness to this power. In other words, it was not the summons of a Divine Beast but the harnessing of desires.
The problem was, even though the source of power was the same, the Heavenly Central Plains had a considerably high chance of summoning failure, because of its isolation from Woochi’s world. And even if it were to succeed, the Yellow Dragon had a much more finicky and different summoning method from the other Divine Beasts. Still, despite such penalties and risks, Davey had to summon it.
[As thy devotee, declare my name to be Davey O’Rowane in thy acceptance.]
Upon the words he uttered his clear voice, a great gust of wind began to stir.
Amazement filled the faces of those who were watching Davey attempt such a challenging task—summoning the Central Divine Beast, which was not just any regular Divine Beast. With the incredible pressure preventing them from even opening their eyes properly, they still desperately tried to capture the sight of him.
Crack!!!
The damage rate reached close to one percent. If possible, it would be more stable to avoid using excessive power and instead synchronize his soul to manifest power.
Just then, the myriad of talismans laid out around him began to react, producing streams of brilliant light. And from above, particles of light that seemed to materialize from nowhere, converged, merging with the light streams emanating from the talismans to begin generating a vast form in the air.
[Name thyself.]
In response to Davey’s words, the figure undulated violently.
[I ask again. Name thyself.]
Normally, it was unthinkable to rush the Yellow Dragon’s summoning spell like flicking through a flash of lightning. But Davey had unleashed the constraints and burden through the power of his title, so he no longer had any reason to hesitate.
But as though it was testing him, the still incomplete form of the Yellow Dragon began to quiver, turning Davey’s expression sour.
He then brought his voice back to its natural tone and volume, no longer trying to project it loud and clear.
“Cut the crap and quit testing me, or I’ll skin you alive. Get out here now.”
The figure shuddered violently in response to the minatory remark, which he could dare to say. After all, it wasn’t the first time he had summoned a Divine Beast. If it was, summoning the Yellow Dragon would’ve been difficult for him.
Moreover, he had Woochi’s qi helping him with the task at hand. It had previously been used to summon the Yellow Dragon, and it started to exert more power as if it remembered summoning it.
Eventually, the Yellow Dragon’s form started to solidify.
It differed from the Azure Dragon’s impressive size. This massive dragon, crafted from radiant golden scales, had two heads and relatively long arms. It appeared to be dozens, perhaps even hundreds of meters in length. Whenever the beast moved, it felt as if titanic streams of water were coursing through clouds.
Finally, the massive Yellow Dragon’s azure eyes opened, and its overwhelming presence astonished the beings from the Spirit Realm, leaving them gaping in shock, unsure of what to do.
“My goodness… What in the world is this…”
“What is that thing…”
The Yellow Dragon that stood silent and enormous before Davey was the symbol of tranquility, born from the desires of humans, and its power was purification, a command over all things.
As its summoner, Davey initiated talking to it, saying, “You must feel it. There’s a disturbing force that lies dormant in this land. Your power of purification, unlike holy power, should be able to erase it.”
Slowly, the Yellow Dragon’s azure eyes descended upon the massive swamp of corruption wrought by the death of Melt. Then, it began to move.
“Oddly, this one seems normal compared to the other Divine Beasts…”
“That can’t be possible,” Davey replied soberly, the corners of his lips downturned into a frown.
Crunch!!!
The Yellow Dragon brought its long arms together, folding its hands neatly.
“Vermilion Bird is a Divine Beast of Rage. That’s why it had an anger management disorder.”
The White Tiger governed joy. That was why when it was happy, it shamelessly lied on its back even in the thick of battle. Then there was the Black Tortoise that had become a masochist from satisfaction. The Azure Dragon, on the other hand, was driven by sorrow. It sought to showcase itself even more fiercely.
So what about the symbol of tranquility embodied by the Yellow Dragon? Perhaps it was simply utterly peaceful. At least, it seemed that way at first. However, the reason Davey said there was no such thing as a normal Divine Beast was because the Yellow Dragon bore its own flaw too—severe obsessive-compulsiveness.
Clearly, the Yellow Dragon was aware of the swamp of corruption, which was a force that did not belong in this land.
Eventually, from where it rested, the behemoth creature shuddered like a leaf in the wind and glared with its eyes wide open. Then, it opened its gaping mouth.
[Silence.]
As if he already anticipated what was about to come, Davey protected the area with a spell of silence, and no sooner did the dragon, upon detecting foreign matter before it, let out its deafening roar.
[———-!!!!!]
“Man, this one was born in the wrong era. If it was summoned on modern earth, it’d be the ultimate rocker, huh?” Davey muttered jokingly with a sigh, standing within the protection of the silent barrier.
While the psycho-like characteristics of the Four Divine Beasts gave enough trouble, the Yellow Dragon’s obsessive-compulsiveness was the most severe issue Davey knew among them. And having to deal with all of them seemed to be the destiny that had been predestined for him since he inherited Woochi’s power.
Boom!!!!
Boom! Boom!!
Out of the blue, beams of light began pouring into the swamp from all directions. And after a while, the bright beams began to sear the earth. It was as if they were cosmic rays of purification, engulfing and consuming the encroaching swamp of corruption created by Melt.
‘Melt’s power may indeed be very powerful, but…’
The Yellow Dragon’s power was far superior, and its inherent power of purification was doubly potent with the fortification and bolstering from the Jewel of Eight Deities. And so, the deluge of light columns kept raining down until they eventually neutralized and vaporized the swamp, completely eradicating all traces.
“My goodness… To think it would actually purify.”
“Not yet. You’ll see soon why that lunatic is called a lunatic.”
At this remark, the faces of Perserque and the beings from the Spirit Realm, who were seeing the Yellow Dragon for the first time, were filled with fear and anxiety.
After all, one commonality among the afflicted with obsession and compulsion was putting in excessive efforts to solve problems.
Woosh!!!!!
The Yellow Dragon continued to unleash its purifying beams on the immaculate ground, uncaring of how it had already vanquished every little trace of the swamps of corruption.
Davey exhaled heavily. ‘Damn it, the beast’s advantage is its potent and expansive power, but the downside is its capricious nature, recklessly spending its total force at any simple contaminant it considered filth.’
“The swamp is gone, right? How long will this continue?!”
“Let it be. The purification beams will probably keep raining down for half an hour or so. So let’s wait it out.”
The beams had only taken a mere ten seconds to obliterate the swamp. Yet the dragon’s rampage was far from over.
“Hmm, with the Jewel of Eight Deities boosting, who knows, maybe it’ll last longer.”
Freshly born, Davey would have educated it better if it were possible, but the Yellow Dragon’s existence was beyond teaching. There was ease in giving up, as the saying went, and never had that seemed more apt.
* * *
While Davey was summoning the Yellow Dragon, Yun Hee-Ryeong set out for the Heavenrend Sect with Ja-Seong and Ji-Hee.
[The Ak Rim Sect had fallen. The masters are dead, and the sect leader has vanished. There is nothing left but revenge. All that remains is to return to my sect to rebuild the school…]
Yun Hee-Ryeong renounced her position as the commander of the Black Tortoise Unit. She had decided to return to Heavenrend Sect, vowing to dedicate her efforts to the reconstruction of their sect until it was strong enough.
“I apologize on behalf of past blunders by the Ak Rim Sect. On that account, I vow to support the Heavenrend Sect under the name of Hwan,” Emperor Wol Gon pledged to Yun Hee-Ryeong even if he was typically unconcerned with such matters. But he had once sought out elixirs of immortality to preserve his own life, and he realized the futility too late. Even then, he was still far more obsessed with life than others. And since he was grateful to Davey for saving his life, he was committed to offering his full support to Davey, regardless of who he was, and such support was also extended to Davey’s companions.
Needless to say, Yun Hee-Ryeong was evidently touched to near tears at the shockingly generous offer from the haughty emperor.
“All that’s left is this wretched swamp that has taken root in this land…”
Mixed expressions crossed the faces of Emperor Wol Gon and Princess Jadeflower of Yu. Updated from n0v𝒆lbIn.(c)o/m
“Since Davey had taken action…”
“It’s taken him longer than expected to return.”
Wol Gon’s face showed complexity as time continued to tick by, and the swamp only grew larger. Suddenly…
Rumble!!! Rumble!!!
Golden flashes of divine lightning filled the sky. And at that moment, everyone looked up with a baffled expression. A vast Yellow Dragon, driven mad with cleanliness, glared with bulging eyes at the swamp of corruption within the palace grounds.
“Take it easy, you fucking shit!!!” Davey’s frustrated shout also played a part in the shocking scene everybody was watching.
