Chapter 653: Chapter 647: Inheritance
After giving it some thought, Finn Lewis pushed all these concerns to the back of his mind. It’s better not to think too hard about these things. He should first secure his inheritance rights to Earth. Once he did, he wouldn’t have to worry too much. But soon, a rather frustrating situation occurred for Finn. Although he hadn’t dealt with many official matters on Earth, the bureaucratic hoops he had to jump through here were even more vexing!
A full 7 hours! Yes, Finn and Dunn Monty were shuffled by a humanoid robot between various departments of the Galactic Federation for a whole 7 hours. Each department had its own explanation and referred him to another department. It wasn’t until the third round of referrals that Finn understood that they needed a code to get this done.
But only one department could generate this code. However, that department told Finn they needed another document from another department before they would produce the code. But upon arrival at the other department, they were told that without the code, no document could be issued.
The situation was a classic catch-22, an unsolvable loop. When they came back to the first department, Finn directly confronted the artificial humanoid and bluntly asked the plump fellow inside, “How much to get this code?”
The plump man glanced at Finn through the window before replying quietly, “100.”
“Star credits.” The man added. Finn felt frustrated. All this hassle for just 100 star credits! He quickly pulled out a bundle of star credits from his pocket and extended his hand to the plump fellow inside, saying, “You dropped something.”
The plump man glanced down at his desk, then after a look around, stuffed the star credits into his pocket. He swiftly produced a certificate for Finn, a small chip inscribed with a special code. He handed it to Finn with a quick, sly smile, saying, “Hehe, congratulations, Your Highness, have a nice day.”
Finn wanted to retort, “have a nice day, my ass!” But he held back, quickly handed the chip to the humanoid robot next to him. After this, everything went smoothly. That is, until Finn reached the last department, located in the basement of the building.
Compared to the ultra-modern, techno-designed halls above, this place was retro, antiquated, and filled with steampunk aesthetics. The large room was filled with all sorts of gigantic gears, resembling a giant machine.
When Finn first stepped in, he was momentarily flabbergasted, feeling as if he had traveled back in time to Earth in the 1900s, an era of rapid development in steam technology. Contrasting with the bustling crowds in the earlier departments, there were no people here, just an old man sleeping on a chair by the entrance.
But wasn’t the contrast a bit too stark? A vintage heavy metal and steampunk setting would normally call for a burly old man with a reddened nose and untidy hair, wouldn’t it?
So why was an old man, who was sprawled in a chair made of some kind of plant, dressed in a long gown, with a neat facial appearance, but maintained a long goatee and wore a Shiva Bun? This contrast was a bit too much.
Interestingly, this old man had an aura of a Taoist immortal. But shouldn’t a Taoist-style old man be sitting in a remote and quiet mountain, living in a thatched cottage, and sipping tea? It was quite disconcerting to see him in a steampunk-style room filled with numerous massive gears.
“Hello, we are here to process an inheritance.” The humanoid politely introduced the duo. Finn and Dunn Monty remained silent, following closely behind.
“Oh?” The old man in the chair opened his eyes and glanced at Finn and the humanoid, then slowly rose from his chair, ambling towards the counter and said slothfully, “Inheritance? Are you from the nobility or the royal family?”
“He is a Duke.” The humanoid answered respectfully.
“Oh? It’s been a long time since a royal has claimed an inheritance.” The old man turned to look at Finn in surprise, but his hands remained busy. He pulled out a gadget that looked a lot like a tablet from a drawer, and quickly, a three-dimensional projection appeared on it.
It displayed a complex, bizarre, three-dimensional pattern. The old man slowly placed his hand inside the projection, causing the light from the patterns to gather around his hand, hovering over his skin like tangible items.

Following that, the old man lifted his hand from the surface of the tablet. To Finn’s astonishment, the lights didn’t disappear. Although he had seen many high-tech devices, he had no idea how this was possible.
The old man placed his hand, still glowing with the swirling patterns of the projections, onto the table next to him. The surface of the table instantly lit up, and countless designs started interacting with the light from his hand, changing color quickly from red to green.
Then a hum resonated throughout the room, and the innumerable gears within began to turn slowly, “Alright, show me your code number.” The old man finally looked up at Finn and spoke.
The humanoid robot hastily handed over the chip. The old man took it and looked curiously at Finn before setting the chip on a workbench-like spot. The machinery on it sprung into action.
It was genuinely surprising to see such purely mechanical operations in the advanced Galactic Federation. Countless tiny probes latched onto the chip, triggering a series of gears that seemed to set everything in the room in motion.
