Chapter 605: Chapter 599: What Kind of People Are These? (Part 2)

“The lineage of imperial blood I mentioned earlier includes the nine royal families, all of whom are categorized as eight-star royals. Of the few royals that remain today, the lowest ranking ones are five-star royals. Families ranked below five stars have either chosen to end their bloodline or were divided beyond recognition by rival families. It seems a few radicals from your family emerged recently but were quick to betray their roots and even abandon their family’s crest. Now when I say all these, my laughter doesn’t seem so uncalled for, does it?” Jasmine Davis said, her smirk threatening to blossom into laughter again.

Finn Lewis rolled his eyes. What could he do but sit there while she laughed? But her teasing did give him a clearer understanding of where he stood. Plainly put, although he was of royal blood and technically a prince, he belonged to a royal family on the decline – a destitute prince, if you will. All things considered, he probably ranked lower than the last royal of the Western Dynasty.

“Feeling duped yet? What does inheriting this star district do for you? This galaxy has countless remote star districts like this one. Seizing control of a few wouldn’t exactly be a tall order. Yet, you chose to run back and stake your claim,” Jasmine Davis said with a shrug.

“I have a compelling reason to inherit it,” Finn retorted after a pause. Technically, the Galactic Federation was the largest and only federal governance in the known galaxy. However, its territorial control was infamously loose. Despite being the largest federation, they couldn’t control even a tenth of the territory within the galaxy without question.

“Well, that shouldn’t be a problem. The bureaucracy of the Galactic Federation may be utterly decrepit, but they have a tremendous respect for traditions, and the Inspectors are consistent in ensuring compliance, so you need not worry,” Jasmine Davis said, nodding her head.

“Alright, enough chat for now. Imagine that, a humble veil like my little spaceship carrying a prince in this lifetime of mine,” she giggled impishly. “Ladies and gentlemen, we are about to dock. Pardon my lot of unruly hands if they behave a bit rough around the edges. Try not to take it too personally.” She laughed again, rising from her seat.

Outside the window, a colossal planet appeared, filling their field of vision. Finn needed no introduction. He knew they were approaching Luna Starfield. Her craft must be descending towards the dark side of the Luna Starfield, forever hidden from the Earth because of Luna’s synchronous rotation in relation to earth’s orbit.

The spaceship wasn’t as massive as Finn first imagined, but it wasn’t markedly smaller either. It was approximately two to three thousand meters long, a couple of hundred meters high, and around a thousand meters wide. The flat structure had eight enormous jets and several smaller ones at the rear.

If this spaceship were on Earth, it would be a mammoth behemoth. Yet, in the vastness of space, it seemed minuscule, especially from a distance. But as they closed in on it, the enormity of the spaceship only increased, and Finn couldn’t help but feel small in its presence.

However, the spaceship’s exterior looked painfully worn out, and it showed signs of significant wear and tear. Finn grew a bit anxious – hopefully, it wouldn’t malfunction during flight.

Finn didn’t particularly heed what Jasmine Davis had said earlier. He still didn’t know who they were or their mission. They certainly weren’t affiliated with the Inspectors, because the Inspectors were an official force of the Galactic Federation. If they were official, they would be powerful, not likely piloting an old, dilapidated ship. Plus, considering the situation with Dunn Monty and Thomas Calvin, who had been forcefully expelled from the Inspectors, the Inspectors wouldn’t be sending someone to receive them. This left Finn with the logical conclusion that the motley crew could be mercenaries.

The condition of the spaceship was consistent with this suspicion. The only surprise was that Jasmine Davis was the leader of these mercenaries. A woman who could command an all-male crew must have been extraordinary in her own right.

Unless the governing dynamics were matriarchal, but the Galactic Federation wasn’t. Having assessed the situation quietly, Finn rose from his seat and was impassive towards the enormous spaceship that was about to swallow their little spaceship.

Just like an airplane landing on an aircraft carrier, their small spaceship entered through a large, open hatch into the belly of the giant spaceship. Finn was most surprised to see people moving around inside, apparently without any protective gear.

Finn knew these were ordinary humans, without a doubt. Both Zero and Olivia Thatcher had scanned them. Perhaps Dunn Monty, Thomas Calvin, and the rest had naturally superior physical abilities than the average Earthling, but their overall strengths didn’t exceed human limits by much. Their sophistication relied mainly on the augmentations from their suits.

However, there was no breathable air in space. If they were breathing, it meant they needed air. Finn couldn’t figure out how they confidently opened the hatch without triggering any safety mechanisms to prevent a loss of cabin pressure.

Although not privy to their technology, he concluded that it could involve force fields to prevent an air leak. In his view, this technology bordered on the mythical, even though the spaceship was in a shambles.

This was after IQ upgrades from Zero. An ordinary person from Earth would undoubtedly be stupefied. No wonder Jasmine Davis classified Earth among the primitive planets. They were as primitive as cavemen were to us now, if not more.

The spaceship soon settled, and Jasmine Davis ambled over to Finn. She playfully slapped his shoulder and said, “When you finally reclaim your heritage, kiddo, I’ll gladly call you ‘Your Highness’. For now, though, you are just a guy who depends on the likes of me for survival out in these godforsaken parts. So, if you want a smooth stint on this spaceship, either get a thick skin or make them respect you. That’s all I’m going to say for now. Tread wisely.”
