Chapter 9: Silver Elite

EndlessFantasy Translation

roll 1

S-Elite, short for Silver Elite, was a weakened version of Bosses. S-Elites were easier to deal with than Bosses. Be it humanoid creatures or animalistic creatures, they would drop off special items after being killed.

These special items were relatively unique and rare, especially when Bosses in World of Ancient Gods were extremely difficult to kill. With the increasing number of players, the Bosses’ attributes were also increased, making it almost impossible for average players to kill.

In his past life, more precious treasure chests would be locked as players progressed in level. Hence, S-Elites became many players’ favourite target. Killing an S-Elite could help players to make a small fortune. Due to these factors, there were countless of bloodbaths and deaths caused by S-Elites.

Just as Li Yao was about to help out the gnome, he saw a Necromancer in long, black robes.

The running gnome was much smaller than the average gnome. Li Yao did not know if he should feel surprised or excited when he saw the two players. The gnome slipped and fell.

Li Yao facepalmed when he saw the gnome then rolled around on the ground like a giant meatball. Although the player was a gnome, she was smaller than the average gnome.

Most average players would not notice it, but Li Yao, who had ten years of experience could see that the player was definitely a child.

After he had made his assumption, Li Yao was even more confused. Most middle-aged and above adults and children would usually choose neutral factions according to their own needs, and they would be allocated to a different continent.

These players would usually choose to play as Demons, Angels, Barbarians, Amazonians and other races. There were also novice villages made especially for the elderlies, providing various gaming methods.

These methods included living with a different occupation, playing chess, farming and others. Once the elderlies had entered the game, they can play in a body that was physically stronger and more energetic. Even in reality, elderlies who were too old to move could be as lively as a tiger, and a lot of them even played as fighters.

The same applied to children, they had their own specialized novice villages just like the elderlies, with different playing methods and game settings such as gore censorship and cartoonish monsters.

In front of Li Yao, was a child.

Li Yao had mixed feelings, but it was just momentary. The child rolled out of the way and was not that far away from Li Yao. Li Yao wanted to rescue the child but it was too late, he thought that death was inevitable for the child.

The rolling child did not wail in pain, instead she shot up from the ground and struck an earthy-yellow totem on the ground.

Once they entered the totem’s area of effect, the S-elite and two elites were slowed down.

An Earthbind Totem!

Li Yao was surprised again. From what he knew, Shamans had to reach Level 10 and complete a special task to receive their first totem, and that first totem was a Water Healing Totem.

Snap…

Just as Li Yao was still in awe, the gnome placed another fiery red totem on the ground.

A Fire Serpent Totem!

The Fire Serpent Totem began spewing fireballs at the turtle-speed elites.

“Quick, come help me! Dropped items will be divided equally based on what you need, or else we will roll the items. Whoever accepts can join my team!” The gnome shouted as she sent team invitations to nearby players. Her voice was sweet and crisp, which further proved Li Yao’s assumption.

“Such a smart young lady. First showing off her skills and worth, then only form a team.”

Li Yao accepted the team invitation.

“You have joined AdorkableTong’s squad. Team mode is on.”

“HundredFacedWitch has joined AdorkableTong’s squad.”

With the system notification popping up, both of the new squad members began to attack.

Li Yao placed three Arrow Towers and tossed a Spike Trap.

With a bang, the three mobs began to bleed. While the Arrow Towers were firing at the mobs, Li Yao nocked his arrows and began showering the Elite Poisonous Dart Frogs with more arrows.

HundredFacedWitch did not just stand by and watch, she tossed a bone glistening with bronze light.

The skull exploded in shining light, a skeleton warrior emerged with a bronze sword and charged toward the Poisonous Dart Frogs.

Then, the Necromancer began casting spells, and a glowing white bone spear appeared above her head.

AdorkableTong’s eyes flickered with excitement with the sight of it, her hands began to cackle with electricity.

Bam…

The bone spear penetrated the Elite Frog and exploded, then came a chain of lightning. This was the Shaman’s AoE spell, Lightning Chain.

After a round of focused firing, the Elite Poisonous Dart Frogs were killed by the countless attacks.

“Hey little munchkin, how did you become a gnome?” asked Li Yao.

AdorkableTong glared at Li Yao with a discontented look. “If you want to make a wild guess of my age, your take is a little too young.”

“I was just guessing, but I’m certain you’re no more than ten years old.”

“Hmph, sly dude! I’m warning you, this is a secret, you better not spread the word around.” AdorkableTong shook her tiny fists charged with electricity in front of Li Yao.

“Turns out it’s a kiddo.” Looking at AdorkableTong staring at herself, HundredFaceWitch let out a laugh. “Don’t you worry, I’m not interested in others’ business.”

“Seems that Big Sis knows better, and is also much stronger than someone here. It is not so polite to pry into someone’s secret you know.”

Li Yao laughed it off and said nothing, he was done with teasing the little girl. In his head, he thought of another person, GuDanTong, the God of Shamans.

This player was once unknown to the public. During the Battle of the Apotheosis ten years later, a powerful Shaman from League Club successfully apotheosized.

This Shaman God was said to have a different name before, she changed her name after she had reached adulthood. She was from a small squad, and when she was younger, she did not join the neutral faction. She started her journey by joining the Dark faction.

AdorkableTong and GuDanTong had the same Tong in their names, and they were both Shamans and Gnomes. Besides that, they could both use so many totems before reaching Level 10.

The more Li Yao thought about it, the more he believed that they were the same person. That time, Li Yao did not successfully apotheosize and was flustered. Hence, he did not pay much attention to her and could not confirm his assumption.

Under their overpowered firepower, the second elite finally sprawled dead on the ground. Minutes later, the last, lone elite finally lay beneath the trio’s feet.

With AdorkableTong’s Healing Totem, all three of them recovered in full health after the battle.

“I will check on the carcass, is that okay?” asked AdorkableTong.

Both players nodded, and AdorkableTong ran off excitedly. Then, two items appeared in front of the squad’s panel.

Linen Pouch: 10-slot bag

Linen Pouch Blueprint: Linen Scroll*3, Common Fuel*1

Li Yao shook his head. “I am not a weaver, and I’m not planning to learn to weave.”

“Me too,” replied AdorkableTong.

“Thank you both, I’ll help myself with these then.” HundredFaceWitch took a screenshot of the 325/1000 blueprint in the squad.

Li Yao and AdorkableTong gave up on the Roll, and HundredFaceWitch took the blueprint. This gave Li Yao an even better impression on HundredFaceWitch. At this stage, there were basically little to no players that were able to learn a sub-class. With skeleton that was better than the average Necromancer, she was obviously no ordinary player.

“With just 350 I can make a pouch. Then, I will make a few free pouches for you guys.” Although they could not see what she looked like, they could still hear the excitement in her voice.

Li Yao knew that she had no reason to not be excited. Each player started off with a 10-slot backpack, then they can further add on with four small pouches. She could make a fortune with this blueprint.

“Thank you in advance, Big Sister,” said AdorkableTong as she looked down on the remaining bags. “Big bro, let’s Roll this pouch.”

“Never mind, you can have it. In another two days’ time the witch will give us another pouch.”

He still had enough bag space anyway, plus he would be getting a new pouch soon. There was no need for him to fight over a small pouch with a kid.

“Thank you, Big Bro. My bag is already running out of space. Stupid totems take up so much space.” AdorkableTong complained.

Li Yao smiled and began collecting materials from the elite with his pocket knife.

“What are you doing?” asked HundredFaceWitch. “You even have Collect skill?”

AdorkableTong watched as Li Yao collected from the carcasses. “Big sis, didn’t you know, you can collect materials for a total of three times using an uncommon pocket knife,” she explained.

“I didn’t know that there is such a thing, no wonder players have been complaining about the low drop rate to the administrators. The explanation given by the admin was to ask them to discover on their own. So this is a way to do it.” HundredFaceWitch’s face turned red after AdorkableTong gave her a you-didn’t-know look.

“Sigh, how did you find out about this?” Her hood was covering up her face so no one could see the embarrassment displayed on her face.

“Simple. During the first day of monster hunting I realized that the item yield was low, it was way worse than the yield from humanoid-creatures. And since the game is open for all, I tried to wrap my head around it. While strolling around the city I saw a pocket knife in the store so I bought two to try it out and that’s how I found out,” said AdorkableTong. “So, it seems that you didn’t know about this. I guess both Big Bro and I are pretty smart,” she continued.

HundredFaceWitch looked down and went speechless. Li Yao was speechless too. He only knew about this after he had seen this strategy online before his rebirth.

“Sigh, how about we take turns to collect from these mobs,” suggested Li Yao. “Which task are you guys here for? If it’s along the way we can stick together.”

“That would be great, I was just collecting the Poisonous Dart Frog’s skin to practice weaving.” HundredFaceWitch hoped that the small squad could remain together longer. After she had seen both of their tremendous powers and abilities from the battle, she felt that she was slightly weaker. It was easy for her to battle common mobs, but when faced with elites her skeleton warrior would take a long time to recover after death. With the Healing Totem, she did not have to worry about it and the poisonous mist’s damage anymore.

Of course, the most important thing was to see the personalities of the two players. From their earlier conversation, she knew that both were smart people and understood the value of the blueprints. This explained a lot of things about them.

“The wretched old gnome sent me to collect the creatures’ souls and to restore the totem or whatever that is.”

“What I need are poisonous glands. Since we do not have conflicting goals, why don’t we continue with the same item distribution method earlier on? Everyone cool?”

Both players nodded. “With Tong’s totems paired with my Arrow Towers and Spike Trap, and with our tremendous power output, let us find a better terrain for us to grind mobs.”

AdorkableTong’s eyes lit up like fireflies and nodded. “Okay, okay. When I first entered this game I was bullied by mobs…”
